QR Labels for Finding Box Contents Without Opening Every Box

A storage box labeled miscellaneous is technically accurate and almost completely unhelpful. The QR Box Inventory System makes the label a doorway to a more useful description.

Each box gets a unique ID, a printable QR code, and a mobile-friendly contents page. Scanning the label opens that page, where the item list, count, and last-updated information can be viewed. An authenticated administrator can maintain the contents as the box changes.

The stable ID is an important design choice. Renaming a box does not change its QR code. That means a label can remain attached while the description becomes more specific or the purpose of the box changes. Printing a new label for every wording improvement would defeat some of the convenience.

The project supports multiple printable label layouts and per-user ownership. Administrators can manage the collection, and missing QR images can be regenerated. Records are stored in JSON, with PHP handling the application and PDF label generation.

One characteristic to understand is that the scan destination is a public contents page in the documented design. It is a useful inventory label, but it is not a private document vault. The items listed should fit that sharing model.

The project connects a physical workflow with a small web application. The phone becomes the viewer, the label stays simple, and the detailed list can be updated without squeezing another handwritten line onto a piece of tape.

The project does not organize the boxes itself. It does make the next search less dependent on remembering which identical bin contains the item being sought.
