Daily-babe: Turning One Photo a Day into a Growing Story

A phone can hold thousands of photos and still make it surprisingly difficult to follow one simple story: how a baby changes from day to day. Daily-babe gives that story a little structure.

The app is a private, mobile-first gallery built around one photo per calendar date. It accepts daily or backdated uploads, so missing the upload is not the same thing as losing the memory. Notes, a full-photo viewer, a photo count, and a missing-date view help make the collection manageable.

Day numbering has an important rule. The due date can power the countdown before the baby arrives, but the actual birth date becomes the source for Day 1 and age calculations afterward. Changing a due date should not unexpectedly renumber an established gallery.

The project also supports multiple baby galleries. Account information lives in one protected authentication file, while each gallery has its own settings, entries, uploads, and backups. A baby’s sign-in name does not have to become the underlying storage folder name.

For sharing a sequence, the app includes browser-generated collages and animated GIF slideshows with day labels. The documented export limit is up to 100 photos. These outputs turn a set of individual uploads into something that shows change over time.

The gallery uses PHP and JSON, with private image delivery and password-protected sessions. Runtime photos and account information are separate from the application source and need their own backups.

This is one of the more personal projects in the repository. The interesting technical decisions all serve the same purpose: make the daily habit manageable, keep the order meaningful, and make it easier to enjoy the photos later.
